by Robert Neest
A green and gorgeous land was filled with wealth
And handsome men and women that enjoyed
A plentiful supply for everything
As all the stuff they wanted, they could get.
The different goods that they disposed at will
And varied services they could enjoy
Were made and all provided by a horde
Of overworked exhausted needy folks.
As were displeased by seeing such poor things
That stained the bright and splendid scene they built
The leading persons made a plan that said
They should restrain the trifling populace.
And their efforts gave the planned results
The little fellows getting fewer, weaker,
But having fewer labourers would lead
To shortages of goods, disruptions, too.
